About

shane caseI spent my childhood torn between two worlds. On one hand science and technology fascinated me. I spent much of my time learning as much as I could about the world around me. Taking apart machines in attempts to piece them into new devices I had envisioned; watching reptiles, amphibians and sea creatures in an attempt to learn how they lived. On the other hand, I was obsessed with fantastic tales from folklore and myths of magic and adventure. These things have stuck with me throughout my life and affect it daily.

I spend much of my time immersed in a career dealing with computer technology. The other half of me has spent the rest of my time creating all manner of things. Several years ago, in an attempt to distance myself from the drudgery of the career world, I began schooling at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Starting on a path of 3D animation, I quickly realized that I had no desire to corner myself into yet another computer related field. At the same time, I also realized that I loved my sculpture classes more than the animation. Since then I’ve devoted all of my spare time to metal smithing.

My work is influenced by romanticized adventures in altered pasts and futures ruled by abandoned technology, magic and forgotten gods. Each creation is an attempt at bringing a fragment of an alternate world to physical form.
